What this site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

What is collected
If you only read
Our servers record the usual request logs — IP address, the page requested, timestamp, browser user-agent. These are kept to keep the site running and secure, and are deleted automatically after about a week. DNS is provided by Cloudflare, which sees the same information.
If you register on the forum
The forum runs on Discourse and stores your username, email address, password (hashed, never in readable form), your posts, and IP addresses associated with your activity. Posts are public by design and remain visible if you later delete your account, though they are anonymised.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
Your email address is stored in Listmonk, which runs on our own server rather than a third-party mailing service. Delivery is handled by Brevo, an email provider based in France, which processes your address in order to send the message.
If you email us
Mail sent to our ukjp.org.uk addresses is forwarded by Cloudflare to the inbox of the person who handles it. We keep correspondence only as long as it is needed to deal with it.
If you become a member
Ghost stores your email address and membership status. Should paid membership open, payment details would be handled entirely by the payment processor and never stored by us.
Why we hold it
Server logs and forum records: our legitimate interest in running a secure, functioning service and meeting our duties under the Online Safety Act. Newsletter and membership: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
Who it is shared with
Nobody, except the service providers needed to run the site — Brevo, which delivers our emails, including forum notifications and the newsletter, and Cloudflare, which provides our DNS and forwards mail sent to our addresses. Your data is not sold, and is not shared with any political organisation, campaign or data broker.
We may disclose information where legally required to do so.
How long it is kept
Server logs: about a week. Forum accounts and posts: until you delete your account. Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, which every email links to.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you may request a copy of the data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Write to privacy@ukjp.org.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
The forum sets cookies necessary to keep you logged in. The main site sets none unless you sign in as a member. There is no advertising or analytics tracking on this site.
